Gaultier and Farag through to Bellevue Final
Gregory Gaultier and Ali Farag will contest the inaugural PMI Bellevue Clasic final after wins in today’s semi-finals featuring the event’s top four seeds.
The top seed was on top from the word go, and Willstrop, who had survived two tense five-setters to reach this stage, could never quite catch up despite a late charge in the third.
“I’m happy with my performances this week,” said Gaultier. “James is one of the top players and he’s very dangerous. I had to play at quite a fast pace to disrupt his game. I love playing here, so to make another final is a great feeling. I have no pressure, I’ve done everything I want to, everything is a bonus now.”
Farag took early control in the first two games, and although Elshorbagy reduced the deficit Farag took a run of quick points from the middle of the fourth to seal his place in the final.
“Marwan’s such a dangerous opponent,” he said, “but I was happy with how I played the match today. It feels great to reach a second successive final, I just hope I can do better against Greg than the last time!”
