Gaultier and Golan in three as Momen and Willstrop take five …
Tonight was the top half of the draw, and what a match to start – Gregory Gaultier against Omar Mosaad in a repeat of the World Championships final of 2015, here in Bellevue!
Next was ann encounter between two of the quickest, most skilful players on the circuit, Tarek Momen and Gregoire Marche. There was never much to choose between them as Momen saved game balls to take the first, Marche recovering to take a two-one lead.
Spain’s Borja Golan was in great form in the third match as he beat seventh seeded Englishman Daryl Selby in straight games..
The final match of the evening saw another Englishman in action in James Willstrop, the former world #1 who reached the World Champs semis here, against newly-crowned Asian Champion from Hong Kong, Max Lee.
This too went the full distance, Lee taking the lead, Willstrop going two-one ahead but then having to fight back from 7-9 down in the fifth before securing his place in the quarters against Golan.
