Day FOUR : Round One part two

Egyptian trio completes quarter-final lineup

It was the bottom half of the draw tonight at the Boys and Girls Club in Hidden Valley, four more quarter-final places to be decided – three of them taken by Egyptians.

sp_30288First up was the first Egyptian, third seed Ali Farag against wildcard Dylan Cunningham in their first meeting.

Cunningham competed well, but Farag was too strong, winning in three games in just under half an hour.

Eighth seed Ryan Cuskelly took  South Africa’s Steve Coppinger, with the Aussie left-hander looking to overturn a 5-1 deficit in the H2H standings.

Coppinger took the first games but Cuskelly responded to take the next three.

sp_30294In the third match three-time world champion Ramy Ashour made his return to tournament action, against Swiss qualifier Nicolas Mueller.

Ashour had won all six of their previous encounters and this one was no exception, the crowd enjoying an fast-paced and entertaining three games.

sp_30298Last up it was second seed Marwan Elshorbagy, the world #5 also taking on a qualifier in Malaysia’s Nafiizwan Adnan, in their first meeting.

After Elshorbagy had edged the first Adnan struck back to level, but couldn’t contain the Egyptian’s shots in the next two games.

So the quarter-finals are set for Thursday, featuring seven of the eight seeds – and four Egyptians
